Proposal for a "hybred" installation for crazed school.
Materials:
fabric
sewing machine etc
projector(s)?
Description of piece:
MY BRAIN IS STORMING:
thought: video footage of different people’s faces, one at a time, fading into eachother or just cutting to the next face will be projected onto a doll's blank face. the faces will each have their own expression(s).
thought: maybe audio is better than video? sounds of laughter, crying, shouting, squealing?
thought: i think i want to have the creature(s) i create (whatever it/they may turn out to be), semi-hidden in the crevasse of a wall, or inside a secret door, or hiding in a tree, or on the ceiling...
i like the idea that not everyone will see it, only a few random people. perhaps by accident they will encounter it, or perhaps they will seek it... the person's personality i suppose would depend somewhat if they saw it or not, e.g. the kind of person who pays attention to details/ is quiet /clumsey/ whatever?
not sure my brain is making sense.

i like feeling that i am rewarding unknown adventurers secretly, giving people a special feeling, happiness.

i am not sure i understand completely. will the faces be projected onto the dolls face? how are the users supposed to know that is it interactive, is there some sort of initiation from the installation? hmm. i also think the paper with the question mark might be a bad idea because inevitably someone will mess it up and it might dissapear all together so perhaps a tile or something more durable and solid? anyhow, i am intrigued by the idea and would like to see it developped. your dolls are always amazing so i think no matter the outcome and peoples reactions, you will at least have something fascinating and aesthetically pleasing and i think it being a doll might infact cause people to want to interact with it anyway.

I really like this idea/concept. It's good because it is so interactive and it gives people a chance to really connect with the piece. I think that Kelly's idea is pretty sweet, and you should consider it.

It seems like it may be too simplistic, and maybe the person won't get anything out of it.
Or they may have a huge scare and run out of the room were a massive doll is sitting as they use the facilities.
But either way you have a great concept I hope it works out!

yeah, i don't know about the bathroom... i wish i could do it outside somewhere, but then there's always the problem of not having a power outlet outside. i shall keep looking for good spots and opportunites.
but then again i kind of want to scare people shitless. in the bathroom. HAR.

I really see the potential in this.
And I understand your issue with the bathroom scenario.
But diversity in mindsets is always a fun thing to go into.
Maybe you can try to put the doll in an inviting pose, like an open hug or handshake. Which would be hilarious to meet spontaniously in a lavatory.

that vpm thing, the white dolls in darkness constantly appearing with different faces. i like having one giant one, seems actually feasible. yeah give it some nice clothes. the face doesn't need to be human. i could produce some things for projection if you want and take photos of it. but as an installation/performance you need a system to keep the face locked to the doll head. i don't know i'm picturing it tumbling over a little and projecting somewhere it isn't supposed to, like half the face on the wall. it would be good to have it in all these different scenes and have face slideshows or whatever specific to the environment

Nice to see the idea evolving. You have referred to positioning the doll -- are your dolls fully jointed to allow for a full range of movement -- sorry I have not seen any they sound incredibe. Sound -- hhmm could the element of sound be incorporated? What do you want to say -- could the sound be imbedded in the doll so that when the viewer gets closer they are exposed to another layer. You idea is solid not simple - I could see this line of work expanding in mainy directions- environments - relating your dolls to environments, social commontary, etc. They are stand ins for humans with all kinds of referances to manipulation of one person to another - the idea of escapism and pretend - etc, etc, etc you are at a very exciting point I cant wait to see this.
